After a hail or wind storm in the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, begin with safe ground-level and interior observations. This checklist helps homeowners document visible changes and decide whether a no-cost exterior inspection or a policy question for their insurer would be useful.

Step 1: Ground-Level Exterior Inspection

Stay on the ground and walk the full perimeter of your home. Note granules in gutters and downspouts, dented or cracked gutters, dents on exterior metal, visible missing or displaced shingles, fence changes, and window-screen impacts. These observations do not establish property damage, cause of loss, repair need, or insurance coverage for a specific home.

Step 2: Interior Inspection

Check for new water staining, bubbling paint, damp insulation, or daylight around skylights, chimneys, and vents. These conditions can merit prompt construction attention, but a qualified inspection is needed to assess visible conditions and repair-scope questions.

Step 3: Document Everything

Take dated photographs and make notes about what changed. For permanent repairs, follow applicable safety guidance and ask your insurer about any policy-specific documentation requirements. Keep your records for conversations with a contractor or insurer.

Step 4: Request an Exterior Inspection or Ask Policy Questions
